My piano concerto listening 21 : Scheonberg - Piano Concerto

Extremely poetic music. Wow.
At the beginning, I feel like seeing two lines, one is the piano who's making a perpetual movement and second is the orchestra who illustrates that random moving. Those two contains different sound material. It's crossing sometimes and being parallel.
Then the piece becomes more narrative.. more classical.. The last parts are more rhythmic and melodic.. mmoorree classical..
Less of abstraction. I'm not there.

My Piano Concerto Listening 020 : Shostakovich - Piano Concerto n.1

This is an interesting discovery ;-)
I liked very much the tone of this work that Shostakovich made out. I've seen some green color of melted plastic..
The use of the highest register of piano was adding to the timbre like sparkling gems. And it's reinforced by some brief and fast rhythmic patterns.

쇼스타코비치가 이 곡을 통해 만들어 낸 음색이 마음에 들었습니다. 저는 초록 빛깔의 녹아버린 플라스틱 같은 것을 보았습니다.
피아노 최고역의 음들을 사용한 것은 반짝이는 보석들 같은 질감을 소리들에 더해주었습니다. 그리고 이것들은 아주 짧고 빠른 리듬 음형들을 통해 더욱 부각 됩니다.

My Piano Concerto Listening 019 : Grieg - Piano Concerto

Beautiful sonority.. Grieg's music shows what's the pure sound. And it's always based on the songs.
It seems to me that this piece would be designed for the orchestra and the piano part is just added as the second layer like a paint brush touch.
Some expression given to solist evokes the music by timbre but each movements still follow the traditional form and pulsation.
아름다운 소리.. 그리그의 음악은 순수한 소리가 무엇인지를 보여준다. 그리고 항상 노래에 기초해서 쓰여있다. 이 곡은 마치 오케스트라를 위해 구상된 곡 처럼 보이고 피아노 파트는 단지 그림의 붓터치 처럼 그 위에 새로 추가한 겹처럼 들린다.
솔리스트에게 주어진 몇몇의 표현이 음색으로 진행되는 음악을 예고하게 해 주지만 각각의 악장은 여전히 전통적인 구성과 박동을 따르고 있다.

My Piano Concerto Listening 018 : Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto n.3

This piece is one of the most well balanced piano concerto to me :-) What I appreciated is the use of distribution of register for the soloitst and the orchestra.

The length is quite long (to me) but I also learned from this that the audience would be touched after an huge event has happened. Frankly, I don't remember any detail. However at the end, I wanted more music. It's like when I watched a good film and I was willing to stay still within the room at the cinema.

The piano texture's got an improvisatory feeling. It's like a crumple matter. But it's not disordered.

 

이 곡은 최고로 균형있는 피아노 콘체르토 중의 하나라고 생각됩니다. 솔리스트와 오케스트라를 위한 음역의 분배가 정말 감탄스럽습니다.

곡의 길이가 상당히 깁니다. (저에게는) 그러나 여기서 배울 수 있었던 점은 어떤 큰 이벤트가 끝나면 청중들에게 감동이 있다는 것 있습니다. 솔직히 말씀드면 세세한 부분은 기억이 나지 않습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 곡이 끝났을 때 음악을 더 듣고 싶었습니다. 마치 좋은 영화를 보고 난 후 극장을 떠나고 싶지 않은 느낌과 같습니다.

피아노 파트는 즉흥연주적입니다. 구겨진 상태의 재료 같은 느낌이랄까.. 하지만 무질서하지 않은 것.

My Piano Concerto Listening 017 : Beethoven - Piano Concerto n.5

'Emperor', very famous piece, has a classical form. I used to not like some classical form concertos (a long introduction by the orchestra then soliste replays the main theme). But this one is not boring. Because of the main melody which is so potent for a hit. (lol..but it's true) This covers everything in this music. It's song-based made. Songs are for the vocals. I believe that in every great melody, there's a song behind.
'황제', 매우 유명한 곡으로 클래식 시대의 구조로 쓰여 있습니다. 저는 클래식 시대의 구조로 되어있는 콘체르토들은 좋아하지 않는 편입니다(매우 오랫동안 오케스트라를 통해 연주되는 시작부분과 솔리스트가 다시 한번 메인 주제를 연주하는). 하지만 이 곡은 전혀 지겹지 않게 들립니다. 왜냐하면 메인 주제가 매우 히트 멜로디입니다. (ㅎㅎ..그렇습니다) 이 것이 이 음악 안에 있는 모든 것을 덥습니다. 이 것은 노래(쟝르)에 기반 되어 쓰여졌습니다. 노래들은 목소리를 위한 것 이지요. 저는 모든 뛰어난 멜로디는 노래에 기초하고 있다고 믿고 있습니다.

My Piano Concerto Listening 016 : Brahms - Piano Concerto n.1

Good texture but it was pretty boaring to me as a contemporary classical composer. Maybe I didn't understand this music but I couldn't find anything interesting on the melody either on the dynamic plan.
It seemed to me that the structure was too complex. And personally, I don't like the classical concerto form because it always makes me waiting too long before I hear the solo. Especially, the piano part doesn't show up something characteristic signed by Brahms like his intermezzos or the other works. It's too bad..
뛰어난 텍스츄어가 있지만 현대 클래식컬 음악 작곡가인 저로서는 상당히 지루하게 느껴졌습니다. 어쩌면 제가 이 음악을 제대로 이해하지 못했을 수도 있지만 멜로디에서도 혹은 음악의 전개에서도 저를 감동시키는 요소를 전혀 찾지 못했습니다.
구조가 너무 복잡한 것 같습니다. 그리고 개인적으로, 저는 클래식 시대의 콘체르토 형식을 좋아하지 않는데 왜냐하면 솔로가 나오기 전 까지 너무 오랫동안 기다려야 하기 때문입니다. 특별히 피아노 파트가 브람스의 다른 작품들(예를 들면 인터메조..)에서 찾을 수 있는 특유의 울림이 없는 것이 아쉽습니다..

My Piano Concerto Listening 015 : Liszt - Piano Concerto n.2

It's true, when I listened it I was almost asleep as well but one of the reasons that I was asleep was that it seemed to me this concerto was just flat. After touched by his first one, I was expecting something really greater..
It's true that this music is very well-written and it contains the beautiful clarity and pure musical flow.
By the way, it's longer but not funnier than the first one.
실제로 이 곡을 듣고 있었을 때, 거의 졸고 있었던 상태 였습니다 하지만 제가 졸고 있었던 이유 중 하나는 리스트의 두번째 피아노 콘체르토가 제 귀에 너무 평범하게 들렸기 때문 입니다.
그의 첫 번째 피아노 콘체르토에 큰 감동을 받은 후, 좀 더 대단한 것을 기대했었는데..
실제로 이 곡은 작곡이 아주 잘 된 작품이며 아름다고 청명한 피아노의 울림과 순수한 음악적 흐름을 갖고 있습니다.
그럼에도 첫번째 것 보다 연주 시간이 더 길기는 하지만 더 재미있지는 않군요..

My Piano Concerto Listening 014 : Saint-Saens - Piano Concerto n.2

I'm sorry to say that this music is just flat. However, it's quite well-written and always led by a suitable length of the rhythmical plans.
I guess maybe it's missing some original sound texture or surprises on that piano part.
This is a good lesson.
유감스럽습니다만 이 음악은 제 귀에 너무 평범하게 들립니다. 특별한 흠 잡을 곳이 없으며, 항상 적절한 길이로 각 섹션이 잘 구성되어 있는데도 불구하고 말입니다.
왠지, 어쩌면 작곡가 특유의 울림이 뚜렷하지 않거나 피아노 파트가 청중의 귀를 그다지 놀랍게 하지 않는듯.. 참고가 되는군요.

My Piano Concerto Listening 013 : Liszt - Piano Concerto n.1

Wow, I rediscovered the beauty of this piece.. For me, this could be among the most well-written piano concertos of all time. There's nothing excessive and everything is there where it should be. I was amazed by the distribution of the main role between the soloist and the orchestra. (Bravo Liszt) And I suppose that Liszt started considering the notes as sounds and being interested by the timber. And the progressive structure is done by the density of the musical texture. We can easily see his research about the orchestration.
I also noticed that Liszt liked the high register sound which is stunningly beautiful. By the way, I was expecting for the same phenomenon at the low register and more darker color to get some contrast... Anyway, my ears were happy.
와, 새롭게 이 곡의 아름다움을 보았습니다. (들었습니다) 저에게 있어서는 최고급의 피아노 콘체르토들 중의 하나라고 생각이 됩니다. 과잉된 부분이 없고 모든 것은 있어야 할 곳에 있습니다. 솔리스트와 오케스트라에게 중심 역할을 시시각각 부여한 리스트의 작곡능력이 정말 존경스럽습니다. 그리고 리스트는 음표를 음으로 생각하고 음색에 관심을 갖기 시작한 것 같습니다. 연결되는 각 악장은 음악의 텍스추어의 변화로 전개됩니다. 우리는 쉽게 그의 오케스트라 편곡에 대한 연구를 찾아 볼 수 있습니다. 리스트는 아주 고음역에 있는 피아노 소리를 좋아한 듯 싶은데 아주 아름답게 들립니다. 약간은 아주 낮은 음역의 좀 더 어두운 색깔과의 대비를 기대하긴 했지만... 어쨌든 귀가 즐거워 지는 음악입니다.

My Piano Concerto Listening 012 : Ginastera - Piano Concerto n.2

This is my first audition of Alberto Ginastera's music. I found this concerto on YouTube by chance :-) There's many good passages and musical elements, the color of piano part is almost always same to me whatever its form though. Anyway I appreciate the variety of ideas.
처음으로 Alberto Ginastera의 음악을 들어보았습니다. 유튜브에서 우연히 발견한 그의 콘체르토 입니다. 상당히 괜찮은 장면들과 음악적인 요소들이 있습니다. 하지만 자주 바뀌는 피아노의 음 유형들에 비해서 색채가 거의 항상 비슷한 것이 아쉽습니다. 아이디어의 다양성이 존중되는 작품입니다.

My Piano Concerto Listening 011 : Mendelssohn - Piano Concerto n.1

Very classical form and music purely guided by the melody. But this is not a bad thing. Because I think a well-written classical piece is based on a natural musical flow. And I can learn a good organization of phrases, sections and rhythmical plans.
온전한 클래식 시대의 형식과 전적으로 멜로디에 의존되어 진행되는 음악. 하지만 이 것이 나쁘다는 것은 아닙니다. 왜냐하면 제 생각에는 잘 쓰여진 클래식 시대의 곡은 자연스러운 음악적인 흐름에 기초하고 있기 때문입니다. 그렇기 때문에 저는 완성도 높은 프레이즈들, 섹션들 그리고 리듬의 구조들을 배우게 됩니다.

My Piano Concerto Listening 010 : Poulenc - Piano Concerto

Very beautiful romantic sound. But the only thing that I've noticed in this piece was the classical concerto technique like a well relationship between the piano and orchestra and some awesome arpeggio formulas.
I have to confess that I was dozing off during my listening several times.. Sorry, Poulenc ! I'm a contemporary classical composer ;-)
I think I should really pay attention, when I'm composing, to the main character for my music. In my humble opinion, what is missing in this concerto is that strong character and it's because of that there's too many fashions of different times.

My piano concerto listening 09 : Ligeti - Piano Concerto (1985-88)

At first, this concerto seemed bizarre to me because of its strong aspect which is melodic. But finally, I found this very high quality music particularly by its tone. It's composed with sounds or some short lines but these objects aren't all time abstract because it contains little bit of melody. And Ligeti mixed and coupled those things up sometimes as a long line like in the plastic art.

I've got to listen it again but my first impression is like there's no remarkable relationship between the piano and the orchestra. Plus, the piano acts timid..lol. But by its timbre, it adds some clarity into this piece. It transform the music into the matter. I suppose also that some passages were the imitation of the electronic sound.

7:00-41 and 19:20-50 was interesting to me. I think I'll listen it again in the near future :-)

My piano concerto listening 08 : Ravel - Piano Concerto in G major

I liked the first movement, especially for the piano part. There's many inventive techniques that I could adapt for my composition. And the tone is really fresh, I mean it's still fresh..
From the second movement, I found it became more traditional until the end. The use of full range of the orchestra at the central part and finally, the last one starts without low was a good plan.
Anyway, I think this piece is really well written for a concert, not just for the art on papers. All my respect to Ravel :-)

My piano concerto listening 07 : Stravinsky - Concerto for Two Pianos

I found again the perpetual movement, rhythmical energy in this piece. Very Stravinsky for me :-) The first movement was wonderful with deteché notes, it's almost like sound matter. I was listening only the energy not what really happened after that part. But Stravinsky's music always evokes me some imaginal images of his time. Maybe this is one of his important talents.

My piano concerto listening 06 : Tchaikovsky - Piano Concerto n.1

As a contemporary classical composer, frankly I didn't find anything interesting..lol. But now, I understood why this concerto is played so many time and loved by pianists. In this piece, the piano is the real protagonist. And the orchestra only shares his register and doubles. The energy we have at the beginning, I'll think of it again when I'm composing some high-energetic passages.
It sounds too old for me today with its form and orchestration. But it shows what is about a hit music. The catchy intro melody awakes people ;-) then a beautiful balard theme..
This time I thought that some sections sound like Schumann's concerto. But it seems to me Schumann one is better for the dynamic plan.

My piano concerto listening 05 : Prokofiev - Piano Concerto no.5

Very interesting piece. I like the color of Prokofiev's music. The choice of notes are really magical, he was able to make a clear tone with piano, and it’s so pure, and I don’t know how he did it. From 11’00”, IVth movement starts. This is my favorite part. The passage from 14’25” is just incredible. The monster bass line is awesome :-) Most of time, I feel like the piano’s register is higher than the orchestra. And in this passage, the piano is enveloping the orchestra’s register.

My piano concerto listening 04 : Igor Stravinsky - Piano Concerto

Nothing was interesting to me but what I really appreciated in this piece is the flow of the melody line which is almost perpetual. It’s very different to Mozart or Chopin but it’s driving..! Lol. I think this is Stravinsky and he was the creator.
